The Breath of Dawn by Kristen Heitzmann

Corporate turnaround specialist Morgan Spencer, dubbed the "success guru," has a Midas touch in business. But losing his wife sent him to the brink, and his two-year-old daughter, Livie, is all he's living for--until they encounter a woman whose trouble just might draw him out of his own. Four years ago Quinn Reilly did the right thing. Now the man her testimony put in jail is getting out. Though she has put up barriers to protect herself and those around her, she has come to care for the Spencer family, especially the winsome Livie and her mercurial father. Unwilling to put them at risk when the threats begin, she requests something she hopes the super-successful Morgan might be able to deliver. Fixing problems is what Morgan does best, but his counterproposal takes them in a direction neither is equipped to handle. Determined to confront the past, will they survive to build a future?
I'm not one for romance novels but when combined with suspense it makes for a great read. I loved the character development and it made me feel as if I knew the characters personally which I found drew me in more. There are so many twists and turns I found I didn't want to put the book down because I had to see what was happening next. It's a great read and there could definitely be a follow up book

Courting Cate (Book 1 in The Courtships of Lancaster County series) by Leslie Gould

In Paradise, Pennsylvania, Cate Miller is known more for her sharp tongue and fiery temper than her striking appearance. Her sweet and flirty sister, Betsy, on the other hand, seems to have attracted most of the bachelors in Lancaster County! But the sisters' wealthy father has made one hard-and-fast rule: older Cate must marry first, before younger Betsy can even start courting. Unfortunately, untamable Cate has driven away every suitor--until Pete Treger comes to town, that is. Prodded by the men of the area, Pete turns his attention to winning Cate's hand. But is his interest true or is there a scheme at play?
Amish fiction is one of my favourite genres. I am not big on Shakespeare and the shakesperian language but was told that this novel is similar to the taming of the shrew. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. Cate is not your typical Amish woman, looking to marry off and stat a family of her own. Cate actually hates cooking and cleaning and the kitchen in general and is why she has scared off all the bachelors in her aea, that's when Pete comes to town. There is a lot of humor and lightheartedness which makes for a great ready. Looking forward to book 2!

Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot

Celia Anderson doesn't need anything for Christmas except a few more boarders, which are hard to come by in this small mining town. She certainly doesn't have a husband on her Christmas wish list. But when a wandering carpenter finds lodging at her boarding house, she admits that she might remarry if she found the right man--the kind of man who would bring her roses for Christmas. It would take a miracle to get roses during a harsh Wyoming winter. But Christmas, after all, is the time for miracles . . . Amanda Cabot invites readers to cozy up with a romantic, heartwarming tale of the greatest gift of all--love.
I never was a lover of romance novels, until I started reading Christian romance. I thoroughly enjoy the loving feeling I get from these books and appreciate how theyre not filled with lewd thoughts and words. I do wish it would have been a little longer, but the author did a great jobdeveloping the characters quickly and drawing the reader in, I was captivated right away and couldn;t put it down. Itès a story of two people who are not really looking for love, but find it in their search for something else. It adds to the miracle of the Christmas season!

The Christmas Pony by Melody Carlson

Eight-year-old Lucy Turnbull knew better than to wish for a pony that Christmas in 1937. Her mother had assured her in no uncertain terms that asking for a pony was the same as asking for the moon. Besides, the only extra mouths they needed at their boarding house were the paying kind. But when an interesting pair of strangers comes to town, Lucy starts to believe her Christmas wishes might just come true after all. The queen of the Christmas novel, Melody Carlson pens another magical tale of expectation and excitement as one little girl dreams big and the impossible becomes possible.
For many, many reasons, Christmas is my favourite time of year, and Christmas books are my favourite books of all! This book is set in the 1930s and a time when a family being minus a husband, finds it hard to get by. Then the little girl wants a pony so badly that she puts her childlike faith in God and starts praying. The book goes on to show what can happen if we just believe and have a child like faith. It also brings us back to the simpler times and the true meaning of the season, rather than the hustle and bustle we so often find ourselves in this day and age.

Did I mention how I love to get hardcovers? lol. Now back to the book! Oh, How I love Jesus! This book brings us right back to the discovery and the eye opener that was the birth of the messiah, to save us all from sin. Bck to the days of the wise men who followed that star, to the virgin who gave birth in a stable. The author goes on to talk about how we get so caught up in the hustle and bustle and the commercialism and traditions, we forget what the true meaning is. This book provides the reader with a deeper meaning of why we have the traditions we do and the symbols of the season and what they represent. A great history lesson and some very great insight!

Still Lolo By Lauren Scruggs

In December 2011, Lauren (“LoLo”) Scruggs, a 23-year-old fashion journalist, suffered a sudden injury that made headlines around the world. She had been on a short flight to look at Christmas lights and, upon exiting the small plane, was hit by the still-moving propeller blade. A frantic 911 call, several major surgeries, and thousands of prayers later: Lauren lived. But she lost her left hand and left eye. And she had to face some incredibly difficult questions: What kind of future will I have? Where is God in all this pain? Will anyone ever be able to love me now? In Still LoLo, Lauren speaks out for the first time since her accident. She and her family reveal what really happened that night, what Lauren’s life is like today, what got them through their journey toward healing, and how they conquered all odds to persevere as a family. It’s a compelling and fiercely beautiful story of faith, determination, and staying true to who you are—no matter what.
It's such a great but sad story at the same time. I don't remember hearing about this through the news or anything, but I enjoyed hearing Laurens story of tragedy and triump and how she still kept her faith in God. I enjoyed how the story was told from several points of view, her parents for example give their accounts and how they were feeling at different points in their lives. I like how the book was honest, even though it wasn't all sunshine and roses, it let's the reader pause and reflect how things are not always what they seem, like the marriage of the parents for example. I think this story is one of triumph over tragedy. There is also a foreword by Bethany Hamilton, the lady who was injured by a shark. I enjoyed this true story and would reccomend. I think what the author was trying to convey, was to help the reader pray more effectively, to make our prayers more quality, more effective. The author refers to Biblical principals on how to unleash Godès power on those you love. Your prayer life will never be the same.

Debt-Proof Your Christmas: Celebrating the Holidays without Breaking the Bank by Mary Hunt

Christmas may be the most wonderful time of the year, but it's also one of the most stressful--and most expensive. Expectations run high and it's tempting to whip out the credit cards to create the perfect Christmas for your family, with lavish meals, new decorations, and the latest, greatest gadgets and fashions for everyone on your Christmas gift list. But you don't have to overspend or go into debt to have a fabulous holiday. Financial expert Mary Hunt shows readers how. She helps readers assess their financial situation, commit to no new debt, and think creatively about their gift list. With Mary's guidance, readers will identify what has caused them to overspend in the past and approach this Christmas with a plan and a new attitude toward holiday spending. This just might be the best gift you can give yourself and your family. This book is an updated edition of Debt-Proof the Holidays.
When I saw this book I knew I needed to read it, and when my books came in the mail, I knew I had to read this one first, especially with the Christmas Season fast approaching. I had discussed with my husband just a few weeks ago how we just cannot do this to ourselves anymore. Our son is 2 and the commercial aspect of Christmas is not what I want him growing up thinking Christmas is all about. The author helps the reader put a plan into place for budgeting and sticking to it. There;s suggestions on ways to save and earn money for the holidays as well. One thing I really like, being creative and crafty, is the suggestions and chapters on doing it yourself gift ideas, low cost recipes, as well as decorating ideas. You don;t need the best of the best to make your Christmas the best ever!

What a great book! I just passed it on to my husband and said "Here, make sre you read this". I literally could not put it down until it was finished. It's compiled of many short stories by all different people of the miracles God worked in their lives. From people who live for Christ, and people who were unsure of what to believe. It goes to show that God hears all our prayers, but answers in his own timing. I cried several times during reading this book because I could just feel the realness and the power of our almighty God whos still working miracles today. I would love to see a follow up book with even more miracles!

Heaven Changes Everything: Living Every Day with Eternity in Mind by Todd Burpo and Sonja Burpo

How would you live your life differently today if you knew that no matter what happened, everything would be okay, even wonderful, in the end? Todd and Sonja Burpo's almost-four-year-old son Colton made an unforgettabel trip to heaven and back during the darkest, most-stressed-out days of their lives. Times were tough, money was scarce, and the bills, frustrations, and fears were piled high. The story of Colton's visit to heaven changed their lives–and the book they wrote about it, Heaven Is for Real, gave new hope to millions of readers. Now, in more than forty unique inspirational readings based on excerpts from their story, Todd, and for the first ever Sonja, from her perspective as a mom, share what happened next–in their lives and in millions of others. Through their own experiences, and based on the stories hundreds of readers have shared, they show you how believing heaven is for real helps us survive hardships here on earth, including the death of a loved one or the loss of a child through tragedy, miscarriage, and even abortion. The daily readings provide a powerful reminder that, beyond the hardships we may face in this life, God's incredible gift of heaven awaits us. Imagine being completely fearless on earth because you know that after this life you're going to heaven, and you know, really know, you're going to love it there. That's the promise heaven holds for us. Heaven is God's last word–and believing it's real changes everything.
This sbook is a follow up to Heaven is for Real, a story of a little boys trip to Heaven and back. Heaven changes everything opens each chapter with an exerpt from Heaven is for Real and then goes on to tell of the evens that has happened since then. This is more of a devotional with 42 entries, although I have read some people chose to read it as a novel from cover to cover. Since I was a fan of the first book, I was very much looking forward to reading this one and finding out more about how the Burpos felt with everything that was going on. How to deal with a 4 year olds experience, and how to interpret what had happened, I was not disappointed. This is a great read and touches on many topics. After the first book, I told my Mother in law about it and she bought 10 copies to distribute to friends. I bought this one for her for Christmas, cant wait to see her buying these up as well!

Full Disclosure by Dee Henderson

Ann Silver is a cop's cop. As the Midwest Homicide Investigator, she is called in to help local law enforcement on the worst of cases, looking for answers to murder. Hers is one of the region's most trusted investigative positions. Paul Falcon is the FBI's top murder cop in the Midwest. If the victim carried a federal badge or had a security clearance, odds are good Paul and his team see the case file or work the murder. Their lives intersect when Ann arrives to pass a case off her desk and onto his. A car wreck and a suspicious death offer a lead on a hired shooter he is tracking. Paul isn't expecting to meet someone, the kind that goes on the personal side of the ledger, but Ann Silver has his attention. The better he gets to know her, the more Paul realizes her job barely scratches the surface of who she is. She knows spies and soldiers and U.S. Marshals, and has written books about them. She is friends with the former vice president. People with good reason to be cautious about who they let into their lives deeply trust her. Paul wonders just what secrets Ann is keeping, until she shows him the John Doe Killer case file, and he starts to realize just who this lady he is falling in love with really is....
I'm still not sure where I stand on this book, even after finishing it! It took me longer than normal to finish because I found that it started off quite slow and honestly, I was bored. I do not know if this was the authors intentions but the book did start hitting some suspense half way through and I kinda couldn;t put it down because I had to know who done it. I like how Henderson never made the romance between Ann & Paul all flowers and chocolate and people falling over their words mush. It really kept with the line of the book. Let's face it, not all romance is like that, I like seeing something dfferent. However, I did feel there could have been more character development, other than that, great read and great addition to my bookshelf!

Jesus: Pure and Simple by Wayne Cordeiro

Do you ever feel like you're being pulled in a million directions? Like you' re overwhelmed with various programs and ministries, or with studying the steps to good parenting or the best ways to share Jesus with your neighbors? These are all good things, but even good things can sometimes take us away from our number one responsibility--knowing Jesus better. Wayne Cordeiro shares how to focus on the One who matters most and take part in the joy and fulfillment that He brings. But he also teaches how this leads to selflessness, a true love for others, and effective ministry. It will, in fact, change how you see the world around you. When you focus on Christ, everything else falls into place. Your relationships. Your job. Your church. Your mission. It's all placed in the hands of Jesus, pure and simple. Here's something refreshing: a pure and simple devotion to Christ. Sounds wonderfully inviting, doesn't it? And the good news is that it's not about doing more or doing less. Because God created you in His image, the more you become like Jesus, the more you become the person you were created to be. It is in Him that you actually find fulfillment, not in religious activities (as good as they may be) or in serene settings that give you a needed respite from your harried workplace. He is not the rest from our labors. He is the rest in our labors.

Jesus Pure and simple is just that. It's about going back to how Jesus lived and following him and doing as he did. This book brough me back to a song we used to sing in Sunday School "Read your Bible, pray every day, and you'll grow, grow, grow..." and that's just what the book teaches. Sometimes we fall into the "job" of being a Christian based on what others expect instead of being a living example like Jesus did. He loved everyone, walked among the lowest of the low to the high priest. He studied God's word and meditated on it and spent time in intercessory prayer always ready and willing to share in his knowledge about God and the christian walk. Sometimes we get so roped up in doing the good deeds, we forget that our deeds are not what will get us into Heaven. God longs for a relationship with us, and for us to share his love with others. I enjoyed this book, I found that it is something that we all need to hear at times, especially around this time of year when it's getting closer to Jesus' birthday we all tend to forget the real reason for the season and get so caught up in the hustle and bustle and entertaining, and the programs and ministries, but we forget to actually spend time thanking God for sending his only son. Look forward to more books by Wayne!

The Reunion By Dan Walsh

Aaron Miller knows a thing or two about loss. He's lost love. Dignity. Second, and even third, chances. Once honored for his heroism, he now lives in near obscurity, working as a handyman in a humble trailer park. But God is a master at finding and redeeming the lost things of life. Unbeknownst to Aaron, someone is searching for him. With deep insight into the human heart, consummate storyteller Dan Walsh gently weaves a tale of a life spent in the shadows but meant for the light. Through tense scenes of war and tender moments of romance, The Reunion will make you believe that everyone can get a second chance at life and love.
I have to be honest, first when I started reading this book, I never gave it much of a chance and was going to put it down again, but decided I'd have to read the first few chapters to give it a chance and what a great read it turned out to be! The heartbreak, heroism, love, rekindled relationships, friendsships, all makes this book worthwhile! The author tells the story from several different points of view, from a writers to a war vets to his long lost family 4 states away and how they all were brought together. The author well rounds out the characters by telling about their past and how they all are tied together, gave me some insight on the war and what really happens in other countries. I will definitely be looking for other books by Dan Walsh!

I couldn't wait to review this Bible but I never knew how much of a blessing it would be! I loved the look of it as soon as I opened the package. The hardcover and the beautiful harvest colors just drew me right in. There is a section in the front for you to fill in about your family tree and then a section about all the contributors (Gaither Homecoming friends). I enjoyed the little devotionals by the homecoming friends, it adds a nice personal touch. The interpretation is very easy to read and even though I'm just ending Genesis, I'm hoping I'm going to finally be able to read the Bible all the way through. I have reccomended it to several family and friends and will continute to do so!

The author gives a simple directive to how we get to heaven and what we will be doing when we arrive there. This is a cute first book to begin leading your children to the only way to heaven, Jesus Christ.
A great simple to read book about Heaven! It's a book of questions Children ask about Heaven written in a way children will understand. The rhyming words and the scripture references make it fun for children and adults alike. The pictures are so peaceful and soothing and you feel a great reassurance from the authors words. There is also scripture references to back up what the author is saying. The book is comforting and reassuring that Heaven is as beautiful as we hear others talk about.

Dear Deb: A Woman with Cancer, a Friend with Secrets, and the Letters That Became Their Miracle by Margaret Terry

"I want you to know that if my illness inspired you to write these stories, the cancer was worth it."—Deb What stories could possibly make cancer worth it? Stories that represent a miracle—a lifetime of miracles. Stories that changed the writer as she wrote them and stories that will touch the heart of the reader, one by one by one. Stories that are not just stories. They started out as words of encouragement to a dying woman. They turned into a collection of sparkling and intimate moments, pulled from the past to finally be understood and shared with new meaning. Story by story, letter by letter, Margaret Terry uncovered powerful pictures in her own life of the one truth that could help carry her friend Deb from this life to the next: God is at work. Together, Deb and Margaret found renewed hope in all the ways God shows up right to the very end. Which is where they found the miracle they'd been praying for all along. In each other.
There's just something about reading intimate details into other peoples lives that appeals to us as humans. Maybe it's the sneaky diary reading feeling, but I am so glad that the author decided to compile these letters into a novel. There's time I laughed out loud, I cried, I did it all really. It's obvious from the content of the letters that they were never meant to be shared with an audience. After reading this book, I know it is a great uplifting for someone going through a similar situation. I would definitely reccomend for something going through the big C. Margaret & Deb are the literal meaning of true friends. She was there for Deb right til the end, whicle she was trying to lift Deb up in her final hours, Deb was teaching her that God was still working in the world today just as much as ever.

In Nowhere but Up, Pattie Mallette shares for the first time in detail about the pain and abandonment she experienced as a child, the sexual abuse she suffered for years, the severe depression she wrestled with as a teen, the deep struggles she faced as a single mom, and the faith she's learned to cling to through dark times. With raw honesty, she spills the truth about a lifetime of moments that were punctuated by pain yet permeated with grace--and the journey that's brought her to where she is today.
First of all, I have to say I never chose this book because it was by Justin Bieber's Mom. I am not a fan of Justin Bieber actually! I chose this book because Patti is a Mom, like myself, going through stress and hitting bottom and realizing she can only go up from there! I can totally relate to some of her pain and the anguish she felt, it's by God's grace that she is able to let go of the past and forgive and move on to the future. I believe Patti's faith in God helped her get through and made her the woman she is today. She speaks of abuse, depression and abandonment and how God brought her through these tough times. I would reccomend this book for anyone going through hard times as we know they don't last and this book is one of hope. Great read.

Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine by Max Lucado

Grace. We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and premeal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means. But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked, “Do you believe in grace?” who could say no? Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace? God’s grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Let’s make certain grace gets you.
Max Lucado is a very thought provoking and inspirational writer. He always uses scripture to back up his thoughts and ideas. He is always encouraging, and this book is no exception. Max talks about how God's grace is free for us all, but we just have to accept it. He uses stories from the Bible as well as from modern day christian which, without God's sufficient grace, would be heartbreaking. Max goes on to talk in the different chapters about the different aspects of God's grace that makes it a whole. There is a study guide at the end which encourages additional readings which makes it great for a group study and discussion. I would definitely reccomend this book to small groups as well it would make for a facinating several part sermon.

The Bridesmaid (Book 2 in the Home to Hickory Hollow series) by Beverly Lewis

Joanna Kurtz has made several trips to the altar, but never as a bride. The young Amishwoman is a closet writer whose stories aren't her only secret. Eben Troyer hopes to make Joanna his bride--if he can ever leave his parents' farm in Shipshewana, Indiana. Yet Eben's hopes to build a life with Joanna hinge on his brother's return from the English world....

Oh I almost squealed when I saw this in my mailbox (actually I think I did!) LOL!!!! But I was just so ecstatic after I reread the fiddler in anticipation for The Bridesmaid and it didn't disappoint! I came to love Johanna Kurtz through the first book and was so excited to hear more of her story. I don't even know how to review this book without giving it all away. But we come to learn more about Johanna's love interest and more about the Amish way of life.
This is a story about faithfulness and love and secrets.
I was a bit diappointed Amelia (the main character from the first novel) didn't make an appearance, especially since her and Johanna were such good friends.
The only con is I have to wait til April 2013 for the next book in this series, lol!!
I would definitely recommend this book, this series actually, read it from the beginning, it's such a heartwarming story!

A Hidden Truth (Book 1 in the Home to Amana series) by Judith Miller

In the closed communities of the Amana Colonies, hidden truths are about to change everything for two young women....
East Amana, Iowa
When Karlina Richter discovers that a new shepherd will be sent to her village, she fears she'll no longer be allowed to help her father with the sheep. She'll be relegated back to kitchen work, stuck inside all day. Her fears increase when the new shepherd shows little interest in the flock--or in divulging why he's suddenly been sent to East. Is he keeping secrets that will impact Karlina's family?
Dovie Cates visits the Amana Colonies to learn more about the place where her mother grew up. But when Dovie begins to ask questions about her mother's past, no one seems willing to reveal anything, so she decides to take matters into her own hands. Will the answers she finds spell disaster for her future plans and the longings of her heart?

Iwas a little skeptical on this book because I just can't get into books that speak a lot about history, but I found this one spoke more towards the matters of the heart.
There is some history in this book about the Amana Colonies which I've never heard of until now. It provides great insight into how the things work and their way of life.
It seems every character has some sort of secrets which are revealed as the story progresses. There is a good bit of Mystery and romance wrapped up in a bundle of history. Not sure I will continue with this series as it was too far in history for my liking. I prefer a more modern storyline or something within the last 50 years, lol.
Judith is a great writer, this was just not my type of story.

Alone after visiting hours ended, Marv tossed and turned, wanting more than anything else to simply sleep and escape the excruciating pain and misery for a while.
He was about to have an experience he never could have imagined--and could never forget.
In My Journey to Heaven, Marv Besteman shares the true story of his experience of heaven with astounding detail. You'll meet the angels who accompanied him to the gate, overhear his conversation with St. Peter, and feel the joy as he recognizes friends and family members who touched his life.
If you are grieving the loss of a loved one, or even if you just wonder about what happens after we die, you'll find peace, comfort, and encouragement in Marv's story.

Have you always wondered what Heaven must be like? If you answered yes then this book shoulddefinitely be on your MUST read list! Marv gives his true account in wonderful detail of how glorious and celestial Heaven is. It is a great book to read if you are questioning what happens after you pass from this world.
The description of the colors and the happiness and joy that was experienced helps the reader form a picture of the wonderful places that awaits us. I don't believe us as Humans could ever fathom the beauty and peace that lives there.
This book is also great for someone who has experienced loss (which is most everyone). It gives the reader a feeling of comfot and contentment as the author describeswho he saw and people he talked with. Even babies at different stages, from a few week old fetus. Makes me even more certain on my stance on the miracle of life.
I would definitely reccomend this book. It will heal you, comfort you and make you smile. Great read!

Nothing To Hide By T. Mark Bertrand

From the Back Cover:
The Stakes Have Never Been Higher for this Homicide Cop
Publishers Weekly calls J. Mark Bertrand's writing "gritty and chilling." He returns once more to the streets of Houston for another twisting mystery featuring Detective Roland March. This time, a new case is launched by the discovery of a headless corpse...only the investigation quickly becomes complicated when a blood sample analysis brings a phone call from the FBI.
The body was an undercover agent working to bring down Mexican cartels. The feds want the case closed rather than risk exposing other agents in the field, but March can't abide letting a murder go unsolved. And he doesn't have to dig long to figure out something isn't right. Someone is covering something up, and it seems that everyone has something to hide. Maybe even March, as the case soon intersects, unexpectedly, with the murder that led him to become a homicide cop, all those years ago.

This is the third book in the Roland March detective series. I haven't read the previous two. It is a great entertaining suspense novel with an occasional grizzly scene. The author does provide flashbacks to where Roland March began his career which was greatly helpful when starting in the middle of a series, lol. There are some major plot twists which adds a whole new perspective to the book. When the murdered is revealed I was so stunned, I couldn't believe it. Now I want to go back and reread knowing what I know now.
This is my first book by T. Mark Bertrand, but now I want to go back and read the previous 2. I would definitely reccomend this book!

Undaunted By Josh McDowell

Undaunted—both the book and an upcoming movie—chronicles the riveting true story of a young farm boy named Josh who carried unspeakable memories of an alcoholic father and a farmhand’s abuse, causing him to defy God’s existence. Yet God redeemed a horrible situation with his unbelievable grace. Today Josh McDowell is one of the most popular evangelists in the world who defends the reality of Jesus Christ to millions through his presentations and classic book More Than a Carpenter. Undaunted unfolds the dramatic spiritual transformation in Josh’s life when he faces his past head-on and puts everything entirely in God’s hands. The result is an undaunted faith, a gift freely offered to everyone who seeks it.

First off, I have to say, cannot wait for the movie! Just curious to see how it will translate to film. The story is a true one of how a boy grew up with an alcoholic Father. It then goes to show how that boy grew into a manand how God transformed that man and his anger and hatred towards his own father for the abuse he endured.
It is a very hard story to read and at times I did cringe, but Josh focused more on God and how he used that experince to mold Josh and make him what he is today. This story goes to show how we never understand why people do the things they do, but putting Faith and trust in God can turn that turmoil or situation around and use it for his glory.
I would reccomend this book, although I felt it was a heavy read at times, I still couldn;t put it down.

The Power of The Prophetic Blessing By John Hagee

God's prophetic voice thunders through time - from Adam and Eve, continuing through Noah, Abraham, Moses, the Prophets, and then through Jesus himself. While apocalyptic prophecy is a dark cloud over the heads of unrepentant, rebellious people, at its core, prophecy expresses God's desire to powerfully bless and multiply his people, not to strike fear in their hearts.
For God's people, prophecy is a word of hope, deliverance, bounty, and richness for their life and family. Hagee takes readers through the entire biblical narrative, showing how this powerful prophetic message flows throughout the Bible.

I've always found Pastor Hagee to be one of the most powerful preachers in the world today. In his books I always find it to be backed up with Biblical references, never a point to argue with. In this book in particular, I find one of my life's mottos to hold true "Everything happens for a reason". Pastor Hagee teaches us that God has everything worked out according to his plan. Though we may not know the reason now, or ever, we have to believe that God has everything under control and is working things according to his plan.
This is found to be a very heavy study book and not something to be finished in one sitting. I find it is something you have to read, think, ponder, pray about and then read again.
There is a lot of learning and teaching about blessings and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit contained in this book. I would definitely reccommend you to check it out!

Letters strengthen their romance until a devastating storm strikes the island. With no word from Evan, Melinda knows she must journey back to Bridal Veil in search of her beloved.

But the hurricane isn't the last calamity to shake up Bridal Veil. Melinda finds a new job on the island, but still no offer of marriage comes her way. Has she given her heart to the wrong person? Will she ever find a man to love and cherish?

Ok, so I don't have the first book to have and to hold, guess I need to find it!
This is my second Tracie Peterson novel, and again, she didnt disappoint.
I lovedhow this book heldso much romance, but not too much. It also showed the characters fear, anger and uncertainty as well. We all know romance is not all roses so it was nice to see the true side of things as well.
I never was much for historical times and figures but it seems I'm drawn more to it lately and I love how the author puts you in that time period and draws you in with the characters.
I would reccomend this book but I'm wondering if I would understand it better if I read the first one?

The Haven (Book 2 in the Stoney Ridge Seasons series) by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Ok, I obviously need to read book 1! Gah! I hate starting in the middle of a series but this looked like such a good read and for some reason I couldn't get into the first one, I must have been in a mood cause this was definitely a great book. Now I need to dig through my bookshelf and start at the beginning lol.
Sadie's relationship with Will and the interfering Gideon reminded me a lot of a friends relationship, and I just wanted to keep reading to find out what she does!
Suzanne has created 3 well rounded characters and the twists and turns in the plot keep you guessing as to what's comming next. Definitely going back to read the first novel and looking forward to the next!

Spring brings new life, young love, and second chances to Stoney Ridge.

On a warm spring day, Sadie Lapp returns home to her quiet, unassertive life in Stoney Ridge after spending the winter in Ohio.

Gideon Smucker, an awkward schoolteacher, has been in love with Sadie since childhood and eagerly awaits her return. But does Sadie feel the same about him?

Will Stoltz, a charming and impetuous college student, has been banished for a semester and sent to babysit endangered peregrine falcons nesting at the Lapp farm. He'd rather be anywhere else . . . until he befriends Sadie.

As the hopes and ambitions of these three young people converge, life in Stoney Ridge may never be the same.

Once again, bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher intrigues and delights with a story that explores the bonds of friendship, family, and true love in this captivating series.

Dying to Read (Book 1 in the Cate Kinkaid Files series) by Lorena McCourtney

All she wanted was a paycheck. What she got was a murder.

Cate Kinkaid's life is . . . well, frankly it's floundering. Her social life, her career, her haircut--they're all a mess. Unemployed, she jumps at the chance to work for her PI uncle, even though she has no experience and no instincts. After all, she is just dabbling in the world of private investigating until she can find a "real" job.

All she has to do for her first assignment is determine that a particular woman lives at a particular address. Simple, right? But when she reaches the dark Victorian house, she runs into an hungry horde of gray-haired mystery readers and a dead body. This routine PI job is turning out to be anything but simple. Is Cate in over her head?

I love a book that keeps me guessing and the suspects never turn out to be who you think they are! I love how the author kept the readers attention the whole way through. The touch of humor Cate added to the book was nice as well and makes me look forward to the next book in the series. Cate of course has no clue what she's doing, only what she's learned from tv, which is quite humorous. Lorena created a wonderful well rounded character in Cate which I know some people can definitely identify with and she's a lot like myself in the way that I wouldn't know how to handle an investigation either.
It's a great mystery novel with a bit of romance and humor tied in which makes it well rounded. I would definitely reccomend this book.

God is still God! This book will renew your faith and lift your spirits that God is still on the throne and performing miracles everyday.
The author speaks with theologians, scholars and various individuals who have experienced a miracle. There's also some talk around the skepticism and negativity regarding miracles aswell, which is nice that the author doesn't just portray the bright, happy side of things. I also loved the twenty things to look for in regards to miracles. Great read!!

When Hope Blossoms by Kim Vogel Sawyer

Amy Knackstedt hopes a new start in Weaverly, Kansas, will help heal the pain of losing her husband and provide a better future for her three children. But her new neighbor, Tim Roper, is not pleased to have an Old Order Mennonite family living next to his apple orchard. Tim left the Mennonite faith years ago and doesn't want any reminders of his former life.
Yet when circumstances throw Amy and Tim together, they form a friendship that surprises them both. Will past hurts always be a barrier between them, or will this tentative relationship blossom into something more?

A great story dealing with loss in two different ways. One character choses to deal by isolating themselves from everyone and everything around them, the other choses to embrace God and their faith to help them heal in the toughest of times. The author pointed out the simplicity of the mennonite life and how it differers from the rest of the world. How they struggle like us all, but they hold fast to their beliefs and faith in God.
This book has a very positive tone and very light. Leaves you feeling refreshed and renewed in your Faith in God and mankind. WOuld definitely reccomend!

Cruel Harvest A Memoir By Fran Grubb

"Get out here, now, or I'm gonna kill you!" he hollered.

Little girls are hardwired to hold their daddies in high esteem, so it comes as a shock the first time a daughter feels the back of her daddy's hand across her face . . . or watches him punch and kick her mother to within an inch of her life.

How could this be? Her older sisters teach her how to survive, even when he comes for her in the night.

A girl learns to become invisible, to look the other way, to say nothing when a curious stranger asks if she's okay. To lie. To expect nothing, not even from relatives.

To cry without tears.

To pray silently.

When she is fourteen, and weary, a girl begins to wish she were dead. Cruel Harvest is the compelling story of how she lived instead.

Inescapable (Book 1 in the Road to Kingdom series) by Nancy Mehl

Lizzie Engel is used to running away. At eighteen, she left her Mennonite hometown, Kingdom, Kansas, with plans never to return.
But five years later, the new life she built is falling apart. Lizzie knows she's being followed, and she's certain the same mysterious stranger is behind the threatening letters she's received. Realizing she'll have to run again, the only escape Lizzie can manage is a return to the last place she wants to go.
Once she arrives in Kingdom, Lizzie is confident she'll be safe until she comes up with a new plan. In reacquainting herself with the town and its people--especially her old friend, Noah Housler--she wonders if she judged her hometown and her Mennonite faith too harshly. However, just as she begins to come to terms with her roots, Lizzie is horrified to discover the danger she ran from is closer than ever.
No longer sure who to trust and fearful for her life and the lives of those around her, Lizzie finds she has only one place left to run--to the Father whose love is inescapable.

For some reason I just love mennonite books. Maybe it's the simplicity in a complicated world, I'm not sure but it always does my heart good. I love reading how their faith is tested in the secular world and how they always come back to God. This book is about romance, heartaches, and mending brokenness and faith.
If you love reading about the mennonite community I would think this would be a read for you!

How Far Will One Lawyer Go to Find the Money?
When Jared wearied of the shady ethics of his big law firm and started his own, he never expected the wheels to fly off so quickly. One big loss has pushed him to the brink, and it's all he can do to scrape by.
And How Far Will Someone Go to Stop Him?
He's not sure if Erin's case is worth the risk, but if the money is real, all his problems could vanish. When digging deeper unleashes something far more dangerous than just threats, both Jared and Erin must decide the cost they're willing to pay to discover the truth.

Great suspense novel! Didn't want to put it down! (Well I couldn't because Johnson keeps you guessing right up to the end). Good round character development as well as plot. The more you read, the more pieces you fit together. You'll find yourself cheering for the little manover and over again, who is trying to find the truth and unlocking secrets.
Great read! Would definitely reccomend! Definitely not my last read by this author!

House Of Mercy by Erin Healey

Beth has a gift of healing—which is why she wants to become a vet and help her family run their fifth-generation cattle ranch. Her father’s dream of helping men in trouble and giving them a second chance is her dream too. But it only takes one foolish decision for Beth to destroy it all.

Beth scrambles to redeem her mistake, pleading with God for help, even as a mystery complicates her life. The repercussions grow more unbearable—a lawsuit, a death, a divided family, and the looming loss of everything she cares about. Beth’s only hope is to find the grandfather she never knew and beg for his help. Confused, grieving, and determined to make amends, she embarks on a horseback journey across the mountains, guided by a wild, unpredictable wolf who may or may not be real.

I don't know that this was really my kind of book. I didn't even finish it. A girl who gets a healing power from a grey wolf that attacked and then run off? Stealing a saddle with no consequence of the action? In a Christian novel? Really? I guess it's for some, but not me. I found itto be too mythical and that's not my style.

Be the Mom: Overcome Attitude Traps and Enjoy Your Kids by Tracey Eyster

The role of mom is often described as the most important job in the world. Rightly so, for so much is at stake during children’s early years and moms are central in shaping character and personhood. However, when the going gets tough (the endless diapers, the continual messes, the endless conflict resolution, the complete lack of personal time, etc.), moms are often tempted to quit their “mom?job”. While few would endorse an outright abandonment of motherhood, others may recommend that a woman treat her role as secondary to personal desires in order to combat feelings of discouragement and/or unfulfillment. The enemy has laid intentional traps cleverly designed to discourage and redirect a woman towards self rather than family. Moms need to know how to recognize these traps . . . and avoid them. Be the Mom: Overcome Attitude Traps and Enjoy Your Kids explores and validates the life of a mom who makes her family a priority and introduces the reader to seven Mom Traps that may be preventing them from a full, joy?filled life.

Loved how this book was more of a self hep book for us Mom's, to help open our eyes to the traps that we tend to fall into, without realizing it. At the end of each chapter there is a short quiz to help us identify how stuck we are in that particular trap. Being a Mom is one of the hardest jobs on the planet, but before we realize it, our children have grown into Mom's & Dad's themselves and make us ponder where the time went and if we strived to be the best we could.
The author helps us realize that we need to be aware of these traps and to call on God to help us BE THE MOM God intended for us to be.
I would definitely reccomend this book to Mother's everywhere, while no one is perfect, we can always strive to be the best we can be!

Grieving God's Way By Margaret Brownley

A 90-day devotional healing experience for the grieving spirit.
The death of a family member or friend is devastating. In fact, it can take five years or more for a person to adequately work through his or her grief, but because we live in a fast-paced society, we often sweep it under the rug or ignore it altogether. God has another plan.
Man's Way: Numb the pain God's Way: Heal the pain
Man's Way: Don't talk about it God's Way: Share your pain
Man's Way: Time heals God's Way: Faith heals
Grieving God's Way is a 90-day reader designed to bring hope and healing to those who have experienced loss. Each thoughtful devotional begins with a scripture and ends with a haiku, written to affirm the positive theme of the text.
Divided into four categories—body, soul, heart, and spirit—each day's entry offers insight into the grieving process that increases understanding of God's purposeful plan for healing the heart and soul.

We feel like no one understands us when we lose a loved one, but most everyone has been there, through the grieving process, and we feel so alone. Here the author takes you through a roller coaster of emotions and teaches us how to let God help us through.

Mom's Go Where Angels Fear To Tread By Joan Wester Anderson

Joan Wester Anderson, New York Times best-selling author of "Where Angels Walk," has turned her attention to motherhood in "Moms Go Where Angels Fear to Tread: Adventures in Motherhood." Anderson is the mother of five grown children. As such, she has much wisdom and experience to impart to those of us still in the trenches. For example, "If you rely on God's help and second on your own good instincts, you'll be happier for it."

Anderson regales her audience with humorous tales of her own experience of motherhood that will have fellow mothers nodding and laughing in agreement. Anderson tackles such topics as attempting to remodel a house, the stress that is the month of February (how can such a short month cause so much trouble?), sending children to school for the first time, taking children to the doctors only to have them be miraculously healed in the waiting room, and watching a child perform onstage for the first time. Anderson concludes each chapter with a wise quote regarding the topic at hand. One of my favorites was from Father Ron Rolheiser: "A mother rearing children . . . is forced, almost against her will, to constantly stretch her heart. For years, her time is never her own, her own needs have to be kept in second place and every time she turns around a hand is reaching out and demanding something. She hears the monastic bell many times during the day and she has to drop things in midsentence and respond, not because she wants to, but because it is time for that activity and time isn't her time, but God's."

"Moms Go Where Angels Fear to Tread" is an enjoyable romp through the experience of motherhood. It will both make you laugh and tug at your heartstrings.

I just loved how this book didn't have to be read all in one sitting! It seems my 21 month old is busier than ever but this book allowed me to enjoy a few stolen moments each day, and most times it was just what I needed! This book reminded me to enjoy the little things (and little ones) as there will come a time for everything else but little ones are only little for a short while. I love the laughs and smiles this book put on my face as sometimes I could totally relate. Oh the joys of Motherhood! :)

I recieved this book from the author herself. She even autographed it. What a sweet lady!!

The Director's Cut By Janice Thompson

Tia Morales is used to calling the shots. She's the director of the popular sitcom Stars Collide, and her life on the set is calculated and orderly. Well, most of the time. Life outside the studio is another matter. If only she could get other people to behave as well as her stars do! When she starts to have feelings for handsome cameraman Jason Harris--with whom she's been butting heads for months--it's enough to send a girl over the edge. Will she ever learn to let go and take life--and love--as it comes?

Full of the humor and crazy family dynamics Janice Thompson fans have come to love, this colorful story gives you an inside look at Hollywood and a healthy dose of romance.

I love a book I can laugh along with and that's just what Janice did in this story! This is the first book I read in this series but it's also the last, I now need to track down the previous 2. I loved the character development and lightheartedness portrayed. The first book I've read by Janice, but I don;t think it will be the last.
I would reccomend this book if you want to escape reality and just relax!

Waiting for Sunrise By Eva Marie Everson

Patsy Milstrap wishes she could leave her past behind. Though she tries to put on a brave front for the sake of her family, the wounds still ache, and the scars on her soul are still deeply felt. At her concerned husband's gentle insistence, they take a vacation from South Carolina on Cedar Key, an idyllic island on Florida's Gulf Coast. A week in paradise will do them good, he says.
When a familiar--and most unexpected--face greets her at a seaside restaurant, Patsy knows she can no longer run from the past. But what will opening old wounds mean? And what will the future hold?
With a large helping of Southern charm, Waiting for Sunrise is a touching story of family, young love, and the need for forgiveness. Eva Marie Everson expertly draws out the bittersweet moments of life, weaving them into a tale that will envelop your soul.

Ok now I wanna read the first book in this series! lol. This is the 2nd in a 3 part series about Patsy Milstrap and the cards she's been dealt. With a less than desirable childhood and feelings of abandonment and abuse, she goes on to find love and we see more of faith and forgiveness.
This was a great read & I would reccomend.

I like how the author compiled stories from everyday people so we can see how God has no favourites, he works in every life, through every sitution, if we let him. It gives the reader a greater hope that God is always there for us if we would but call on his name.

Relentless Pursuit By Ken Gire

We're all outsiders sometimes. Each of us has felt lonely in a crowd, or been passed over for a job opportunity, or been squeezed out by "friends." We've all spent time on the outside looking in. But take heart--Jesus will leave the ninety-nine just for you.
Bestselling author Ken Gire weaves together stories from the Bible, history, and his own life to create a soul-lifting picture of a God who relentlessly pursues the outcast and disenfranchised--a God who became an outcast himself to bring his lost ones home. Let your eyes be opened to the one who will never fail to find you and embrace you as his child.

We're all guilty of it, at one time or another. Pushing someone aside because they are "different", seeing them with our own eyes instead of through God's. Society and media plays such a role in our lives today and gives us a model of what they think we should look like, how we should act and what is "acceptable. We may have been on the recieving end of stares, whispers and torment from other individuals who feel that we are the "different" ones. But in fact, we are all created in God's image, we all have free will, and most of all, no matter what, we are all forgiven.
This book talks about how God is always trying to pursue us, no matter where we go or what we do, he will never leave us or forsake us. This book tells stories of lepers, prostitutes and other "outcasts" who have found acceptance with God. From Bible times to todays modern world, we may change, but God remains the same yesterday, today & forever. He loves each and every one of us and wants us to live for him and worship him, the one who made us.
I would definitely reccomend this book. This is a great study tool. There are discussion questions at the end for group use to help provoke thinking, understanding and acceptance of others. It encourages us to see ourselves in a different light and how we can make a difference in the lives of others.

Redeeming Church Conflicts By Tara Klena Barthel & David V. Edling

Every church will experience conflicts. If properly approached, church conflicts can be used for spiritual growth for both individuals and entire churches. Redeeming church conflicts--making something glorious out of something painful--provides evidence to a watching world that the gospel is real and powerful.
In this hope-filled and practical book, two church conflict resolution experts take you through the Acts 15 model of approaching conflict in order to provide a clear, godly way forward into redemptive reconciliation.

I know many people who should read this book, and I hope they do! There's too much conflict in God's House that should never be. We are all one in Christ and should put our human tendancies and biterness aside and live more like Him. Churches today are shamed by the conflict and bitterness that occurs toward members and pastors, as seen by Christians and Non-Christians alike. It drives people further from the fellowship with God and each other than could help them grow in their spiritual journey.
We humans need to learn to let go, and let God. We as a church body need to learn to put our trust in God and follow our scripture and believe that God will take care of his people. At a point when the devil is more active than ever in the church, this book is right on time!
I reccomend reading this book if you have experienced church conflict, currently experiencing church conflict, or hven't experienced church conflict, but want to prevent it before it begins!

Love Does By Bob Goff

You don’t need another Christian message or a self-help book. You need to have your paradigms about the world shifted into truth. That’s exactly what you get in Love Does. Have you ever noticed that the real change in your life-the growth that sticks and becomes a part of you-never happens with a program or the sheer grit of your best efforts? It happens over time, like a glacier slowly carving valleys through the mountains. In this book of compelling stories coupled with eye-opening truths, author Bob Goff shows you a new way to live, a way that’s drenched with the whimsy of God’s love and the spontaneity of following where he leads when he says “Go!” In this book, you learn what it looks like to be secretly incredible and advance God’s kingdom everywhere you are and wherever you’re going.

This book is full of little anecdotes from the authors daily life, but more than that it tells us the reader what could happen if we live every moment like it was our last. Bob lives his life as though every day is a celebration and I would be suprised that when God calls him home there's a marching band, balloons, confetti & streamers! He portrays such a positive picture of life and is a breath of fresh air in such a disturbing sinful world.
The author challenges us to live a life of forgiveness and hope and to be fully aware of the things going on around us and see the good in every situation. There is always an opportunity to help someone and the things that can happen if we just say yes!
I would reccomend this book to teens and adults. It is a great teaching tool as we can all be a bit naieve and skeptical at times but we need a little more Bob in all of us!

The Way Bible (NLT)

Today’s 16–30 year olds are looking for connection to something bigger than themselves. They want something that works and is honest, authentic. Something that they can actually experience. Something that gives them hope. The Way offers a way that works. A way that matters. A way that asks them to step up to something important enough—big enough—to live for. It’s a visual, textual, and interactive experience for a generation that has blurred the boundaries of media. It’s an interactive experience for those ready for collaboration, change, and a challenge. The Way connects a restless generation, a generation looking for direction, to Jesus—the Way, the Truth, and the Life. It uses first-person stories, reflections, and questions that bring the Bible to the real world.

My hubby hasn't read the Bible for a loooong time, and when he saw this one he was like "Cool, mind if I read it?" Yay!! Can't even tell you how ecstatic I am! Over the moon! What a great translation! I'm sure teens and adults alike will find this book very attractive and it draws the reader in to study more of God's word. The writings are easy to understand and interpret. I've started showing it to my friends and it's getting great feedback. The stories are told in first person narrative and can be applied to the world we're living today.
I would definitely reccomend it for a young adult. Parent's, go buy this for your teens!

A Heart Like His By Beth Moore

We all go through times when we feel insignificant or times when we feel certain that we have experienced a degree of failure from which there is no return. This is not a reality we experience alone, but is one that a man after God’s heart experienced as well.
In “A Heart Like His,” Beth Moore looks at this bond of mutual love and admiration between a man who was not unlike any of us and the one true God who is all good and all powerful. The book is an exploration of David’s incredible life, drawing spiritual insights from a man who boldly fulfilled his divine destiny not merely by what he did, but who he loved and served.
Bringing lessons from David’s life to bear on your own, this picture of a man who loved and followed God will help you to serve with a heart focused on Him no matter the circumstance.

Another great read by Beth! She's starting to become a favourite of mine. She tells the story of David from the time he was a young boy until the his transfer of the throne as an old man. David was not someone whom I was familiar with as I find it's a story that's not given much thought in the Bible, but I'm so glad Beth decided to retell David's life as if she was there herself. The depth that she went makes you not want to put the book down as it brings the reader to a whole new understanding of his life and relationship with God. His trust and faith is something one can only wish they had.
This book would be great for a study group as there are a lot of principals that we could apply to our own lives and learn to give it all up for God.
I definitely would recommend this book and look forward to more books from Beth!
