Stand By Me By Neta Jackson

Book Description
Sometimes the person you most need is the one least like you.

Kathryn Davies is a bright young woman from a prominent Phoenix family. But after making a leap of faith at a Christian music fest, dropping out of med school, and moving to inner city Chicago, her family has all but disowned her. Kat’s enthusiasm for her newfound faith tempers the sting of their rejection.

When Kat discovers SouledOut Community Church, she longs to become a part of the multi-cultural church family. But her tendency to say whatever she’s thinking and her eccentric ways step on the toes of nearly everyone she meets—especially Avis Douglass, a woman she admires but who seems distant.

Avis is known for her mature faith and her reliance on listening to God more than people. Married to a kind and successful businessman, she is the principal of one of Chicago’s highest performing elementary schools, and a founding and active member of SouledOut. But the country’s economic downturn has thrown both her and her husband’s jobs in question. And Avis hasn’t heard from her youngest daughter in months—an estrangement that gnaws at her every day. Where is God in all this?

Kat’s flamboyant zeal for living a “radical” Christian life is a stark contrast to Avis’s quiet crisis of faith. But in God’s own mysterious ways, the two women discover they need each other in ways neither of them expected.

What I loved about this book the most was that I could identify with the characters in their daily struggles as it was closely related to my own. How they seek out God's guidance to their situations and lean on a friend for support. This book was like a cool drink of water on a hot day. It was so refreshing to the heart and soul.
I love how the book goes on to reveal that no matter how polished and prim someone looks on the outside, they can be tattern and torn on the inside. No matter how together you have it, you can never have it all together.
This would be a great book for a book club discussion as it will encourage each other to look at their own lives and put themselves in the place of characters and how they live day to day!

When the Smoke Clears By Lynette Eason

Simply could not put this book down! I read it walking around my house while trying to do my housework because I always wanted to see what was going to happen next! There`s just so much suspense packed into one novel, it would make for a great movie!!
In this story, Alexia has to return to her hometown and face a past that she had hoped to leave behind. The story does jump back and forth between the present and the main characters recollection of her childhood and as to what happened that fateful day she had lost her sister in a house fire. Was it her fault? Then, after living in another town for 10 years, she finally returns home, due to her Mothers failing health & the fact that she almost died in the line of duty, only to be met with trouble that seem to never be further behind than her heels.
This book will leave you literally on the edge of your seat. The suspense is enough to make you want to skip to the end to find out what happens!
Would love to read more by this author! Since this is the first book in the Deadly Reunion series, I can`t wait for the next book!

Blue moon bay by Lisa Wingate

Never thought I was a fan of romance, until now. This is the first book I've read by this author, and I'm pretty certain it won't be the last! At some points I did feel it was a little dragged out, but in the end, it only helped with character development. I simply wanted to get to the who, what, when, where, why & how.
This is a story about facing your past and comming to terms with things that happened and forgiving past hurts and learning to love. While there was romance, there was also quite a bit of mystery as we followed along with the main character trying to unearth secrets held by her family, a family she is very resentful towards, especially her Mother & brother, her fathers death, travelling back to her hometown & having to face her high school crush.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is into the romantic-mystery type novels. I did find the plot was very well developed as well as the main characters. Would I read a book by Lisa Wingate again? Most definitely!
