Great Day Every Day By Max Lucado

The alarm clock rings in a new day and a chance to rejoice in it. After all: "This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it."

But what about those days when the traffic snarls, airports close, and friends forget? Is there any hope for the days riddled with the hang-ups and bang-ups of life?

In Great Day Every Day Max Lucado unpacks Jesus' blueprint for dealing with such days: Saturate your day in Jesus' grace. Entrust your day to His oversight. Accept His direction. It's the only prescription to fill your day with God-given purpose.

When you find the divine promise of each day, you can face whatever it brings. Speed bumps and speeding tickets won’t derail you. Hiccups and hard times don’t have to ruin your day. In fact those days can become great days. Whatever you face, you can have a great day every day.

Very powerful and uplifting book with scriptural reference. The author makes you open up your eyes and see that every day is a great day as a child of the King. I am a positive person and try to findthegood in every situation but this helped ensure me I am trying to see the glass half full in every situation.

Lorena, who hides a dark truth, finds herself falling for the handsome captain and ex-privateer who's come to secure ownership of one of her father's ships. She's unaware of Brogan's own secret when another's deceit has her sailing toward Europe against her will.

Haunted by thoughts of Lorena in peril, Brogan is compelled to choose between the boy he longs for and the woman who has captured his heart.

If you're looking for a story about second chances, read this book. There is suspense right from the beginning with the reader becoming drawn to each character as they are developed. I found this book had a great forgivness undertone and may make you think about what things you need to let go of in your own heart.
There are many dark secrets that are revealed as the story goes on and it keeps the reader interested. I found I kept skipping over pages to find out what happens which is not good, cause then I missed something and had to go back and reread, lol.
I am not a big fan of war time books, but this was a nice read. Would definitely reccomend.

Chasing The Sun By Tracie Peterson

When her father disappears in war-torn Mississippi, Hannah Dandridge finds herself responsible not only for her younger siblings but also for the Texas ranch her father recently acquired. A marriage of convenience could ease her predicament... but is it the true desire of her heart?
Wounded soldier William Barnett returns home only to find out that his family's ranch has been seized. Though angered at this turn of events, he's surprised to discover that it is a beautiful young woman with amazing fortitude who is struggling to keep the place running.
Despite these circumstances, Hannah and William form an uneasy truce... and an undeniable attraction builds between them. In a land where loyalties are divided in a country ravaged by war, is there any hope that the first blush of love can survive?

Very nice romantic read! Not many novels show a love at first sight relationship, but this is how the characters are portrayed even though neither of them want to be the first to admit it. The characters are well developed and there is a few points of suspense intertwined with romance and faith. It is nice to read something laid back and refreshing really, and in Civil war times which I never realized were so hard, pitting one against the other. But there was so much more hope than in previous books I have read it was a welcomed change. This is my first book by this author, and I can't wait for the next one!
Definitely would reccomend this book as a wonderful way to wind down at night, leaving you with a happy heart!

Sarai: A Novel By Jill Eileen Smith

When Abram finally requests the hand of his beautiful half sister Sarai, she asks one thing--that he promise never to take another wife as long as she lives. Even Sarai's father thinks the demand is restrictive and agrees to the union only if she makes a promise in return--to give Abram a son and heir. Certain she can easily do that, Sarai agrees.

But as the years stretch on and Sarai's womb remains empty, she becomes desperate to fulfill her end of the bargain, lest Abram decide that he will not fulfill his. To what lengths will Sarai go in her quest to bear a son? And how long will Abram's patience last?

Combining in-depth research and vivid storytelling, Jill Eileen Smith brings to life the beautiful and inscrutable Sarai in this remarkable story of love, jealousy, and undaunted faith.

This is the first book in the Wives of the Patriarchs series. It tells the story of Abram & his wife, Sarai. A story which I thought I had known well, not realizing when it comes to the Bible, you can never know too much. I was aware of Sarai's infertility and lack of faith in God, but never realized the extent of her sins that stemmed from her impatience.
In this novel the writer brings to life the people surrounding the couple, family and friends and immerses the reader into a whole new world making you feel like you were there at the time. It gives you a new perspective.
Although, at times, there was a lot of detail in the book it almost felt too complicated but overall was a great retelling of a great story! Would definitely reccomend to people who want to go deeper into stories of the Bible.

Miracle For Jen By Linda Barrick with John Perry

On the night of November 5, 2006, the Barrick family was driving home from church when their van was struck by a drunk driver. Fifteen-year-old Jen suffered multiple skull fractures and severe brain trauma and was not expected to survive the night. But against all odds, she did. As she lingered in a coma, doctors warned that if Jen ever woke up, she would be cursing and screaming in confusion due to her brain injuries. Instead, after five weeks she opened her eyes and began praying and praising God. Jen didn’t remember her middle name, recognize her parents, or recall that she had a little brother—but she remembered Jesus and every word to every praise song and scripture she had hidden in her heart before the accident. As any loving mother would, Jen’s mother Linda wanted God to heal Jen—make her like she was before. Normal. But a loving God had something else in mind—instead of making her normal, God is making Jennifer—and the whole Barrick family—extraordinary, miraculous. Miracle for Jen is the remarkable true story of a family who overcame tragedy and learned to trust God's plan for their lives in a whole new way.

What an amazing read! I was intrigued even in the very first chapter. What an amazing walking miracle and testimony Jennifer Barrick is to the mercy and grace of God! I thoroughly enjoy true stories and was looking forward to receiving this book for review. Little did I know how this book would break my heart over and over again and open my eyes to the realization that God is in control of each and every one of us. He decides when we take our last breath, not man.
I would definitely recommend this book. It is a great story of triumph and celebration that if God brought you to it, he will bring you through it. Nothing is too great that our God cannot intervene, as he did with Jen. I laughed, I cried, I felt so ungrateful after seeing all Jen went through and to still come out thanking God more than ever and to know we complain when something doesn’t go our way. She is a true definition of what a Christian should be!
